The main objective of the course is to provide knowledge about the main features of PMFBY Scheme and the Crop Cutting Experiments. The course also covers the loss assessment methods used for widespread calamities, sowing failure / prevented sowing, localized calamities and post-harvest losses.  The course also discusses the applications of technology in underwriting and loss assessment.

 

This course is ideally useful to all those people working in Agriculture Insurance, particularly, Insurance Executives, Officers and Field staff working in agriculture and revenue department of State Government, professionals associated with Crop Insurance, including Crop Surveyors, Loss Adjustors, field staff involved in CCE, Intermediaries and InsurTech and AgriTech companies, etc.

Detailed course information

Course Objective :

The main objective of the course is to provide basic knowledge about the main features of PMFBY Scheme and the Crop Cutting Experiments. The course also covers the loss assessment methods used for widespread calamities, sowing failure / prevented sowing, localised calamities and post harvest losses.  The course also discusses the applications of technology in underwriting and loss assessment.

Course Structure : 

The entire course is divided into seven sections. Each section explains the concepts including examples, applications and learning assessments (Assignments and Quiz). 

 

Topic 1 : Crop Insurance Fundamentals

At the end of the topic, the participant will develop the understanding of :

  • Current Status of Agriculture of India and its position in Agriculture in the World. 
  • Various risks faced by Indian farmers 
  • The insurance mechanism in general and the Management strategy adopted by farmers to cope up with the crop loss

 Topic 2 : Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

At the end of the topic, the participant will develop the understanding of :

  • History of crop insurance journey in India and evolution of crop insurance schemes
  • Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), its objectives, features, operational modalities for enrollment, awareness of farmers, distribution channels, procedure for yield estimation, modalities of crop loss estimation and payment of claim to the affected farmers.
  • Use of technologies for effective implementation of the scheme including crop loss assessment

 Topic 3 : Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS)

 At the end of the topic, the participant will develop the understanding of :

  • What is Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS), its features, operational modalities, awareness of farmers, distribution channels, procedure for claim assessment and settlement
  • Role and Responsibilities of Various Agencies
  • Challenges in Implementation of WBCIS

 Topic 4 : Crop Yield Estimation and Crop Cutting Experiments (CCE)

At the end of the topic, the participant will develop the understanding of theoretical aspects of :

  • Importance of crop yield estimation by conducting CCEs, its benefits, impacts and use of CCE results, norms, procedures, reporting requirements
  • Roles and responsibilities of State Government officials, Insurance company, farmer and other supervisory officials.
  • The process of conduct of Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) viz. use of random numbers in selecting and identifying primary sampling unit (village), secondary sampling unit (the targeted plot), ultimate sampling unit (the experimental plot), modalities of measurement of whole plot, experimental plot, demarcation, recording the biomass weight, grain weight before drying and after drying, filling of Form I, II, III and its submissions to the authorities for further action.

 Topic 5 : Loss Assessment In Crop Insurance

At the end of the topic, the participant will be familiarized with the practical aspects of :

  • Planning Crop Loss Assessment on Individual Farm Level
  • Procedure for Farm Assessment of Crop Losses
  • Localized Calamity Loss Assessment

 Topic 6 : Uses of Technology in PMFBY

At the end of the topic, the participant will develop the understanding of :

  • Importance of use of technologies for smart / cluster sampling
  • Analysis of crop images obtained from Satellite and Drones for crop productivity and loss assessment

 Topic 7 : Agriculture Reinsurance

At the end of the topic, the participant will develop the understanding of :

  • Understand the concept of Reinsurance, basic principles and function of reinsurance.
  • Familiarize with the types and Methods of Reinsurance and it’s applications.
  • Appreciate the importance of Agriculture Reinsurance and role of reinsurance in agriculture insurance business.
  • Familiarize with the Quota Share Treaty and It’s applications in Agriculture insurance. 
Familiarize with the Stop loss reinsurance and it’s applications in Agriculture insurance.
